Humility leads to grace. Grace leads to humility.

It's very interesting to me that Jesus often calls Himself the Shepherd and us sheep. It's actually very humbling. Sheep need grace so much for wandering that they need to be hooked with a staff and directed back in. That's often what the Lord does for us, or at least with me, I'm sure of it.

My life song:

O to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be!
Let thy goodness like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above

I often am humbled by the fact that Christ saved a wretched sinner like me that I realize, I wander and therefore am over joyed by the fact that He uses me to speak to other people sometimes. But it's in those moments of grace, and humbleness that I start to disappear, and the burden of the cross I daily walk is lightened, and I want to run to Him.

Humbleness in my opinion is the key to the greatest commandments. "Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, mind, and soul. And love your neighbor as yourself." When you are humbled by who you are, and in Awe of who He is. You see the bible as a mirror. This mirror shows us our sin, and shows us His goodness. Is that as humbling to you as to me?

I am convinced that humility is the key to walking with the Lord, and pride is the key to sin. (Do not misunderstand me, faith is the key to eternal life but I am speaking of truly taking up your cross, and walking in the Holy Spirit daily require humility. It keeps us from sin most often, only when humbled towards Christ.)

Moses was humble before the Lord. So humble that he didn't think the Lord could use him because of his stutter. But the Lord showed Moses grace, and sent Aaron a long.
Numbers 12:3
(Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)

Verses on Humility:

1 Samuel 2:7
The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts.

2 Samuel 22:28
You save the humble, but your eyes are on the haughty to bring them low.

1 Kings 21:29
"Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son."
Humility promotes grace. And it makes it possible.

Humility promotes responses from God.
2 Chronicles 7:14
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

James 4:6
But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
1 Peter 5:5
Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."

Often when I am humbled before the Lord, I don't focus on how people are treating me, but rather, how they need prayer and need Christ as much as I do. And usually humbleness promotes me showing others grace.

When I'm humbled by God's Word, or by God, I realize that he shows me that I am still a sinner saved by grace. That I once was lost, and now I'm found. I remember then what God brought me out of. I remember that I received a gift I do not deserve, and I'm more willing to have grace enough to quit looking at what others are doing, and love them enough to tell them about this gift. It helps renew the joy of my salvation.
