[1 Corinthians 13:3-13]
"If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
The love of Christ is unconditional. How often our love is conditional. We make statements like, "Sure I loved him, but then he cheated." That happens even in marriages. And marriage is our most intimate form of love. Yet, we have so many divorces. There are also so many people who go into marriage or the seeking of a spouse in the wrong way. The Lord called up to love. But he also says that we need to "guard our hearts because it is the wellspring of life". But because the Lord know that as humans we, as the Word says, are "sinners" and [Romans 3:23] says "For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God." Then the Lord knows that he is the only answer to any of our problems. That's why in Psalms he says that "The Lord heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds". We are important to him. He not only loves us but he lavishes his love on us like 1 John 3 says. How important we are to the Lord, not because he needs us, but because he choses to love us. So I encourage you, Share Christ with other. But also love others through Christ, unconditionally. Or I at least challenge you to love someone this way other than your spouse, future spouse. Step out of your comfort zone and watch Christ move.
