Religion vs. Relationship and why it shouldn't become "cliché".

What is it in life that you’ve always wanted? We all desire or want something?

a significant other, loving parents, to be a parent, friendship, family, money, fame, accomplisment, or simply just to be loved by anybody?

All of those things make us feel something. We feel accomplished, loved, or sometimes even invested in when people notice us.

We all strive to be apart of something, to belong to something. We are often hurt when others do not love us, invest in us, or care about “our sides” of the story when we are going through something. That hurt in turn always causes us to hurt others. The hurt can stick and cause destructive patterns of more hurt. The truth is until we’re truthful with ourselves about who we are (sinners) (Romans 3:23) and until we love others despite who they are we aren’t really being “like Christ”. (John 3:16) As a Christian the issue I have seen addressed more often lately is why a relationship over religion. You have the basic statement: religion is man trying to get to God, and a relationship is God coming to man. I heard someone recently say, “I am so tired of hearing this. It has become just another word. It’s the new cliché word like discipleship.” Although, yes I agree we have to be careful in Christianity with the “fad” words we use. However, the basis of what Jesus taught us is that it is a relationship with God the Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit that really is the impact of eternal life.(Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9) We know others and learn about them through relationships. Hence why Jesus said, “Many will come in my name, doing many things in my name, and say to me Lord, Lord, and I will say depart from me, because I knew you not.” (Matt 7:22) If we do not let God build relationship with us, we do not know the truth of His word, we don’t understand the back story behind the book,(the bible, God’s word). In essence God sets up relationship even amongst himself (God Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) to model unity. (God said let US make man in OUR own image- Genesis 1:26) But because in American in a church that should be busy on the battlefield against the real enemy, this fallen angel called Satan, we instead are often busy just being obsessed with consumtion of “the american dream” as much as the world, and hence turn to consuming things to fulfill us, or others with hate and judgement, or worse we forget about the other enemy and make each other that enemy (Eph 6:12) Then we too often create cliques and fads and such. This is just another way for us to either replace that need to want something deeper or to try and self medicate. Through this people become numb. But please don’t let yourself become numb. This is a bad place to be in life. Apathy reduces the compassion and love that Christ set for us in our “gut” to feel for others, and sometimes apathy reduces the choice to chose love and compassion even when you “feel” otherwise. God is compassionate (Psalm 103). Christ was compassionate. He was God but humbly let himself be limited to man to put on flesh (Phil 2). He is the closest example we'll get to see God in flesh, in the same stuff we're limited in, to see His holiness as an example. “Christ is “the image of the invisible God.” (Col 1:15) He was known for being near the broken. He made his way among the sinners, and loved them even in their sin.(Luke 15; John 3:16) The beauty is He didn’t leave them in their sin. (Eh 5:8; 1 Cor 6:11) Now, is it possible that we sometimes go right back to the sin we once knew and that Jesus so freely broke the chains from originally? YES. But last I checked, Jesus was too busy seeking God’s will, (even though he was God), and spending time with the Father (in prayer), and in return letting the love the Father had for him pour over Him and turning right around and lavishing that love on us and others. You see, people knew when Moses came down from the mountain and had to cover his face where he had been. (Exodus 34:29). They knew by his countenance who he was spending time with. (Was Moses perfect? NO. He stuttered, He was co-dependent upon people, and asked for his brother to come speak for him because he didn’t think he could. He killed someone even.) But still they knew despite the weakness that Moses had, that HE WAS SPENDING TIME WITH THE LORD. (2 Cor 12:9) When countless others spent time with the Lord we see over and over people recognized the difference in them. Yes that difference needs to be a encounter with Jesus. When you walk away from your first real encounter with Jesus you are changed, but you are NOT immediately GLORIFIED. You have to be sanctified first, you are a work in progress. We see Paul  mention this countless times through out the new testament. We are God’s workmanship (Eph 2:10). Jesus himself constantly spent time with the Father and the Spirit. We get so caught up on every law, every legalistic action that we try to make a cookie cutter way to have knowledge of God and still follow him. But then we become like detectives chasing the steps Jesus walked but we never actually get to stand in His presences. How sad. This is why I think others are right when they say that Jesus is not about religion (or mans traditions to get to him) and He is about a relationship. Because in a relationship, God can show you through His word how he feels about you, how he wants to forgive you, or how he judges you, but still desires to love you so much that He sent His son to die for you. BUT let God do that. Christian, STOP, trying to be God in others lives. Stop setting up rules and laws to set people up for failure and judging them through your own eyes. YOU are a sinner! You aren’t going to see what God sees. And if you tell me you do, I’m going to tell you, not completely, because you still speak to the Father through a Christ covered lense, which means, you still don’t have the right to judge (that's God the Fathers title) you aren’t on His throne. Is hell real? YES! Is Jesus going to judge those who do not believe in Him? Yes. Will they go to hell? Yes. Does that mean that we need to push people into more hurt just so they turn around and continue to hurt others and run from Jesus? NO. Christians, Stop living by the flesh and being judgmental, running your own life. It’s sad I have to say that, because if we really lived the way that new testament believers did we wouldn’t have to clarify the difference. Quit complaining about America and others and how it’s going to hell because Christians might actually have to suffer. JESUS did. He said you would too. Get ready. Stop injuring each other in the battle and just love your neighbor as yourself. Go out of your way when they do something that you think is repulsive. Show them you are different. Even the world hates others and their own enemy. Jesus even said, LOVE YOUR ENEMIES. For even the world loves those who love them and are “like” them. And for those of you who have gained a love for things and not people. STOP. God’s word also said, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose His soul?” So let me ask you this question? If you are reading this right now, have you ever just really made stupid decisions? Have you ever lied to someone you love? Have you ever broken any of the ten commandments? …. Then you know how it feels to be loved even though you don’t deserve it. Especially if you are a Christian. Turn around and lead people to Jesus and let them have a relationship with him, and stop complaining and yelling at them for not being perfect in their “traditions”(Col 2:8) Secondly, I know, I am a christian, and I am writing this article so, for most people who do read this, I am just as convicted by God’s word, and His spurring me on to say this and be convicted by it. But I will warn you, I write this out of a heart that sees Jesus was really only harsh with the “religious” people of his time. Wether it was the Pharisee's or Sadacusses, or even those in political power who mocked Him. God will not be mocked. And we need to be careful not to hate the sin so much, that we cannot love the person who God died for. Let God give the plan. You stop. Just simply follow Jesus. Follow him into the trenches, and let Him battle for you, I and for Himself, and you just love and BE DIFFERENT, supernaturally love others so that they see that God is love. And make people want to come to church because they know God loves them. Don't try to convince them you've been with Jesus. Most of them don't care anyway, but you're giving Him a bad name by being so hateful. Don’t just preach that you’ve been with Jesus. Let them see who you spend time with, and they’ll know if it’s Jesus or not, despite the sin, and the mess ups you’ve done. As for the church. Be humble. You are one weakness away from sin. (Even Peter denied Jesus right after being with Him) Pride is the most deadly sin. It sent Satan spiraling into thinking he could be as great as God, and it sends preachers into thinking they are the real head of the church, and often forsaking accountability, it sends people into thinking they don't need a Savior and can do it all on their own. And it honestly is where God often just let hearts become hardened. Why this is, I don’t know. God is in the heavens and does whatever he please- Proverbs says. But ultimately, I know that he desires that none shall perish but all should have eternal life. And I know that he desires a relationship with each one of this through that. The most intimate relationship is that of a husband and wife. They become “one” in marriage. This is a reflection of something even more deeper with the Lord. Because I read recently in a book, “The clear message of Scripture is that one cannot know the Father apart from His Son and apart from the work of the Spirit of God. The unity of the Father, Son, and Spirit is consistent with the foundational Hebrew confession of faith— “Hear, O Isreal: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” (Duet 6:4) The Hebrew word for “one” indicates a composite unity, just as once cluster is made up of several grapes.” So God’s desire is for us to be “ONE” with Him. In this relationship. We must have fellowship with the wholeness of God which means actively knowing God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And this same book read: “ Ultimately, we are powerless to know God without the help of His Holy Spirit. The Spirit knows “the depths” of God and makes God known to us. (1 Cor. 2:10-13) So we know that we must know God in all three parts. We must be in fellowship with and build a relationship with all three parts of God to have a relationship to God and with God. We must be one with Him, as His church, and His people we are called His bride. (in Revelation). So please, understand, there is no room for pride in this relationship, or His kingdom. It’s to seek first His kingdom. And His kingdom, He is the only one on the throne. Please know that trying to judge others sinful nature and not love them is against the two greatest commandments (Matt 22:36-40) It is also trying to take God’s place in the life of another. It’s the same trying to be judge over them (which is God the Fathers thing) And trying to convict them is taking the place of the Holy Spirit. You cannot be God the way God can be God. So please just humble yourself, and seek Him. And lead others to Him, so that He can be God in their life. And do me a favor, love, teach, preach and spread the Gospel message. For those who desire such a relationship, seek God, find Him in His word (the Bible) Seek Him through prayer, and ask Him to make Himself known to you. He will. I’m sure of it. He wants a relationship. And not your religious practices!

Grow In Jesus: Dr. Jeremy Westrbook

1 John 2:12-14

New Living Translation (NLT)
12 I am writing to you who are God’s children
because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus.[a]
13 I am writing to you who are mature in the faith[b]
because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning.
I am writing to you who are young in the faith
because you have won your battle with the evil one.
14 I have written to you who are God’s children
    because you know the Father.
I have written to you who are mature in the faith
because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning.
I have written to you who are young in the faith
    because you are strong.
God’s word lives in your hearts,
and you have won your battle with the evil one.

“Unapplied truth is like paint.” –Unknown

We are filled with worship services, church, and bible studies, but what are you applying?

Matthew 7:24

New Living Translation (NLT)

Building on a Solid Foundation

24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.

1.     Showing up does not always equal growing up.

1 Peter 2:2

New Living Translation (NLT)
Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment.

There are so many atheist that have read the bible from front to back, and I know a bunch of Christians who haven’t even read half the bible.
We wouldn’t go into war and not know how to fire a weapon?

2.     Spiritual Growth is not accidental, but intentional.

Philippians 2:12-13

New Living Translation (NLT)

Shine Brightly for Christ

12 Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. 13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

We all have to learn in the small things. Be faithful in the small things and He will know you are faithful in the big things. What kind of deposits have you made?

He hasn’t called you to become a God, but to become Godly.

You aren’t going to do this by becoming someone else. He has called you to be you, and do what you do. Learn from your spots in life.

We are not called to live a life of imitation, but a life of habitation.

(Do not be like someone else, be you with CHRIST in YOU.)

I made you. We are unique. He has made us in His own image. We have to work to know Him, and to grow in our walk. Be indwelt with the Holy Spirit.

Consistency: what it takes to be there in Christ.

We get discouraged as Christians when we don’t feel certain things. It’s about who you are in Christ and spiritual truth. It’s when you feel like you are on the mountain, you know the same as in the valley.

It’s dangerous to live our lives emotionally based as Christians.

3. God care more about who you are than what you do.

Colossians 3:23

New Living Translation (NLT)
23 Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

Are you becoming more and more like Christ?
God has not called us to be comforted, but transformed, into Christ creation.

We need to grow up.

He has not called us to be comforted but transformed. I want you to be conformed to me. And not let your circumstance dictate you. When it’s just you and me, then I will do our greatest work in your life. We get frustrated in our circumstances. Often times when we are being comfortable we are not being transformed.

3.     You decided to become a disciple

Some of us today need to put away our childish behavior and spiritual mature in Christ. You must decide to become a disciple. You are called. You must decide.

Sometimes in our lives spiritually, there is a slow leak going on. We are drifting and we don’t even know it. You cannot keep on saying, well I don’t have anyone around. I don’t come from a family that is good. The Holy Spirit inside of you is the greatest teacher around. He will teach you, and guide you.

Living Hope Sermon: Celebrating Communion

Dr. Jeremy WestbrookCelebrating Communion

1 Corinthians 11:17-34
New Living Translation (NLT)

Order at the Lord’s Supper

17 But in the following instructions, I cannot praise you. For it sounds as if more harm than good is done when you meet together. 18 First, I hear that there are divisions among you when you meet as a church, and to some extent I believe it. 19 But, of course, there must be divisions among you so that you who have God’s approval will be recognized!
20 When you meet together, you are not really interested in the Lord’s Supper. 21 For some of you hurry to eat your own meal without sharing with others. As a result, some go hungry while others get drunk. 22 What? Don’t you have your own homes for eating and drinking? Or do you really want to disgrace God’s church and shame the poor? What am I supposed to say? Do you want me to praise you? Well, I certainly will not praise you for this!
23 For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread 24 and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you.[a] Do this to remember me.” 25 In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.” 26 For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.
27 So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against[b] the body and blood of the Lord. 28 That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup. 29 For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ,[c] you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself. 30 That is why many of you are weak and sick and some have even died.
31 But if we would examine ourselves, we would not be judged by God in this way. 32 Yet when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned along with the world.
33 So, my dear brothers and sisters,[d] when you gather for the Lord’s Supper, wait for each other. 34 If you are really hungry, eat at home so you won’t bring judgment upon yourselves when you meet together. I’ll give you instructions about the other matters after I arrive.

Guten Morgen: Jeremy is back from Germany.
Time Element: We will not do this after Jesus comes back and is with us.

1. Moment of Reconciliation vs.17-22

We must forgive others as Jesus forgives us. Do you have unforgiveness in your heart?
We must confess our sin and get right with what the Lord wants of you.
1 John 1:9

2. Moment of Remembrance vs. 23-26

We do this because He is a high priest that understands our weakness. He loves us. And he did this with his disciples.
John 14:6

3. Moment of Repentance vs. 27-34

We need Jesus every single day. Ask God what doesn’t honor him and confess to Him your sin. (Our of remembrance of Him comes repentance of Him.)

YOU ARE LOVED- a testimony of His great love.

WARNING: This video may be too much for some of you to handle. But honestly it hits home for me.

The insecurities of all the things we are called in life, or all the ways we are treated. We find our value in our past, our stories, or even the words others use against us. The truth: You are loved. Your story is part of a more grand one, one in which is beautifully and craftily built into His story. The Story of a greater love.

I was 5. I can remember it like it was yesterday. The words or phrases echo in my mind. "You are a mistake". "Go to your room, I don't want to look at you." Words parents should never speak to their children. I had a passive mother, who now, I have a good relationship with, but at the time, was too enthralled in hurt and pain that she could not protect me. My dad had placed his trust in a falsehood, and in sex and alcohol. Every day from day one was a battle for me. From being born premature, to seeing the pain my mom was going through, through seeing my dad self destruct. Abusive words, sexual images, alcohol. All the lies Satan wants us to believe. I was surrounded. "I'm not good enough". "God doesn't even love me enough to protect me." Little did I know how much He actually was protecting me. My dad would beat me and my mom often, he would cause every night to be a battle. But he had everyone fooled. Everyone loved him. So I stayed in my shell. Too quiet. Too scared to break out. I was never good enough, because he, my dad, wanted a boy. And I was born a girl.

I was 13. All the emotions and frustration of an unhealthy past. My parents were divorced, my mom in another unhealthy relationship. This time this guy scared me too. He was full of hatred. My dad, remarried, he was beating her too, and her daughter. I didn't have many friends. I was still terribly shy. My imaginary friends, and the dreams I had, they had all faded. The good I once saw in the world, all turned to darkness. I started hanging out with a few kids, but they all drank. So, although I told myself I never would, I started drinking. Loved alcohol so much, I would fill empty Mountain Dew bottles up with Vodka and take it to school. This was an easy way to hide the alcohol. I was drunk most of the time. Still made good grades though. I slipped by no one noticed. I loved black. And darkness became a friend. I started writing poems and lyrics that were all self hatred, self harm, and destruction.

I was 15. The year was 1999. Alcohol and Sexual Immorality were my only friends. I had rebelled against my family. I was a sophomore in high school. I had made new friends, but their family lives were as devastating, as full of abuse, and hatred as mine. I was misreable. And lonely. I had constant dreams of death. And it was terrifiying. But I was too far gone, or so I had thought. In the midst of my pain, and feelings of not surviving a world so violent and ugly, I had decided god was dead, and so should I be. I met a girl who played the drums the same as me, and she moved up into the high school band and reached out to me. Little did I know no matter how annoying I thought she was; the truth was ... God had sent her. I hated my life, and so I was going to put it to an end. In my little barn, beside the trailer I lived in, I walked outside, threw a rope up over a rafter, and decided to make a noose and put it around my neck. All the hatred, all the names, the lack of love I had ever felt all ran through my head. As I stepped up on an old tub we had in the barn and waited for the circulation to be cut off and for all the pain to go away, I began to cry. And the rope broke, and I fell to the ground. And the cordless house phone (you know those old things) rang. It was my friend that I had met in band. She called to ask about my day. Her kindness so innocent. But she was so interested. I began to cry and told her that I wasn't sure about this thing called God, and all these other silly things in her life that day, but somehow, I felt something that day was changing. In my stubbornness, God began to chase me, but I still told him I didn't believe in Him. There are many other parts to the story I'll tell you about if you want to know. (But you will have to message me for that.) But basically, God relentlessly used this girl, and 8 other of her friends to love me. And eventually God drew me to her church, where I would hear the gospel, and eventually, after a long hard journey, would surrender my life to Jesus Christ on dOctober 20, of 1999. I fully repented of my sins, and continue to do so. God used stories of the prodigal, and the relentless love of Him leaving the 99 for the 1 to woe me in. And He never has stopped. I got baptized on January 16, of 2000.

I say all this to say, a little love, goes a LONG way. And when you keep someone from loving others regardless of how you feel, you may be condemning someone to hell. Self righteous foes did nothing but turn their heads and snarl their noses at me. They just kept their kids away, to keep them from being tainted, and they expected my parents to be the ones to be responsible for my salvation. But guess what, this left me lonely and alone. But because God had a bigger plan, and because God loved me, he sent imperfect people, who would later hurt me, to be the ones to show me His great love. The truth is LOVE SPEAKS VOLUMES more than judgement. Leave the judging up to Him. Who are you loving today? Or do you even believe YOU ARE LOVED?

1 John 4:19

New Living Translation (NLT)
19 We love each other[a] because he loved us first.

John 3:16  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 5:8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God. who loved me and gave himself for me.
Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, evenwhen we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved—
1 John 4:9-11 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
1 John 4:7-8  Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.  Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
1 Peter 5:6-7  Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,  casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
Job 34:19 who shows no partiality to princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor,  for they are all the work of his hands?
Psalm 86:15 But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
1 John 3:1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,
Proverbs 8:17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
John 13:34-35  A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.  By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Emotional to Devotional: Sermon 3. (And God's Plan for showing He cares.)

Dr. Jeremy Westbrook
Living Hope Church, Marysville, Ohio
Emotional To Devotional: Frustration: “Finding God’s Sovereign Screen Play”

Exodus 13:17-22
New Living Translation (NLT)
Israel’s Wilderness Detour
17 When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” 18 So God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness toward the Red Sea.[a] Thus the Israelites left Egypt like an army ready for battle.[b]
19 Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph had made the sons of Israel swear to do this. He said, “God will certainly come to help you. When he does, you must take my bones with you from this place.”
20 The Israelites left Succoth and camped at Etham on the edge of the wilderness. 21 The Lord went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night. 22 And the Lord did not remove the pillar of cloud or pillar of fire from its place in front of the people.
Footnotes:
13:18a Hebrew sea of reeds.
13:18b Greek version reads left Egypt in the fifth generation.
This is the longest sentence in the Greek New Testament. It’s like Paul just keeps going. For English majors, it’s a nightmare. There is no punctuation. Paul get’s excited about the Glory of God and His greatness.

Exodus 14:1-14
New Living Translation (NLT)
14 Then the Lord gave these instructions to Moses: “Order the Israelites to turn back and camp by Pi-hahiroth between Migdol and the sea. Camp there along the shore, across from Baal-zephon. Then Pharaoh will think, ‘The Israelites are confused. They are trapped in the wilderness!’ And once again I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will chase after you.[a] I have planned this in order to display my glory through Pharaoh and his whole army. After this the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord!” So the Israelites camped there as they were told.
The Egyptians Pursue Israel
When word reached the king of Egypt that the Israelites had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds. “What have we done, letting all those Israelite slaves get away?” they asked. So Pharaoh harnessed his chariot and called up his troops. He took with him 600 of Egypt’s best chariots, along with the rest of the chariots of Egypt, each with its commander. The Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, so he chased after the people of Israel, who had left with fists raised in defiance. The Egyptians chased after them with all the forces in Pharaoh’s army—all his horses and chariots, his charioteers, and his troops. The Egyptians caught up with the people of Israel as they were camped beside the shore near Pi-hahiroth, across from Baal-zephon.
10 As Pharaoh approached, the people of Israel looked up and panicked when they saw the Egyptians overtaking them. They cried out to the Lord, 11 and they said to Moses, “Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt? 12 Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, ‘Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!’”
13 But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. 14 The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”

Exodus 14:21-31
New Living Translation (NLT)
21 Then Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the Lord opened up a path through the water with a strong east wind. The wind blew all that night, turning the seabed into dry land. 22 So the people of Israel walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on each side!
23 Then the Egyptians—all of Pharaoh’s horses, chariots, and charioteers—chased them into the middle of the sea. 24 But just before dawn the Lord looked down on the Egyptian army from the pillar of fire and cloud, and he threw their forces into total confusion. 25 He twisted[a] their chariot wheels, making their chariots difficult to drive. “Let’s get out of here—away from these Israelites!” the Egyptians shouted. “The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt!”
26 When all the Israelites had reached the other side, the Lord said to Moses, “Raise your hand over the sea again. Then the waters will rush back and cover the Egyptians and their chariots and charioteers.” 27 So as the sun began to rise, Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the water rushed back into its usual place. The Egyptians tried to escape, but the Lord swept them into the sea. 28 Then the waters returned and covered all the chariots and charioteers—the entire army of Pharaoh. Of all the Egyptians who had chased the Israelites into the sea, not a single one survived.
29 But the people of Israel had walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, as the water stood up like a wall on both sides. 30 That is how the Lord rescued Israel from the hand of the Egyptians that day. And the Israelites saw the bodies of the Egyptians washed up on the seashore. 31 When the people of Israel saw the mighty power that the Lord had unleashed against the Egyptians, they were filled with awe before him. They put their faith in the Lord and in his servant Moses.

11 These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age.

The Plan.  (Exodus 13:17-22)
God knows the plan, but we get caught up in not knowing the plan.
He knows what’s best.
God know that the Nation of Israel should not go into the land of the Philistines yet. Yes, it was the shortest distance, but that isn’t always the best way. The best way may be the hardest way.

How many of you like roundabouts?
Personally I hate them. But God led the Israelites in a roundabout way. But He knew the way.
“There really is no blessing without the battle.”

The Lord wants to lead you. Who is leading you?

The Pursuit. (Exodus 14:1-9)
Desperation leads to dependence.
I am going to lead you in the wilderness.  –God.
“This is what happens they blame the leader.” –Jeremy.
Start going into a complaining and critizing mode. They turn against their leader. They turn him from a hero to zero quick.

“You will never realize Christ is all you need until you realize Christ is all you have.”
Psalm 77:
For Jeduthun, the choir director: A psalm of Asaph.
I cry out to God; yes, I shout.

Oh, that God would listen to me!
When I was in deep trouble,

I searched for the Lord.

All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven,

but my soul was not comforted.
I think of God, and I moan,

overwhelmed with longing for his help. Interlude
You don’t let me sleep.

I am too distressed even to pray!
I think of the good old days,

 long since ended,
when my nights were filled with joyful songs.

I search my soul and ponder the difference now.
Has the Lord rejected me forever?

Will he never again be kind to me?
Is his unfailing love gone forever?

 Have his promises permanently failed?
Has God forgotten to be gracious?

Has he slammed the door on his compassion?
 Interlude
10 And I said, “This is my fate;

the Most High has turned his hand against me.”
11 But then I recall all you have done, O Lord;

I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago.
12 They are constantly in my thoughts.

I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works.
13 O God, your ways are holy.

Is there any god as mighty as you?
14 You are the God of great wonders!

You demonstrate your awesome power among the nations.
15 By your strong arm, you redeemed your people,

the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Interlude
16 When the Red Sea[a] saw you, O God,

its waters looked and trembled!

The sea quaked to its very depths.
17 The clouds poured down rain;

the thunder rumbled in the sky.

 Your arrows of lightning flashed.
18 Your thunder roared from the whirlwind;

the lightning lit up the world!

The earth trembled and shook.
19 Your road led through the sea,

your pathway through the mighty waters—

a pathway no one knew was there!
20 You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep,

with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds.

Are you putting your faith in a person, a plan, a place, a purpose?

This is the sermon Jeremy preached. However this morning, I got this text from someone in Memphis, TN. 10 hours away, God still unify's hearts to show you what you need to hear.

We must trust our God. We must trust His sovereign plan. The people didn't need to trust Moses, they need to trust God. We have God's Word. And it teaches us his lessons, and teaches us His way. Jesus, is the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father except through Him. We use to have Moses, but now, under the New Covenant. We have Jesus. Do you trust Him? Does the Holy Spirit inside you trust Him? Do you even have the Holy Spirit inside you? Do you know what that means even? Trust in the Great God who made the expanse in the sky and gave it a plan.
